02 / Back to the sourceThe context

The whole
conversation.
Still there.

A summary is a starting point. Follow a timestamp back to the transcript and read what led to a decision.

When the recording is available, listen to that moment too.

The summary gives you the outcome.
The transcript keeps the reasoning.

Access is optional and works while Recordstead is running. Content an assistant reads may be sent to its provider. Recordings and audio paths stay out of reach.

05 / Built around the way you work

The fit

Your meetings don't all
need the same notes.

01 / Templates

Give the summary a shape.

A standup, a one-to-one, a sales call, an interview. Choose a built-in format or create a template for the sections your work needs.

02 / Dictionary

Keep your words right.

Save the correct spelling of names and terms, along with the versions transcription gets wrong. Matching spellings are corrected in future transcripts.

03 / Workspaces

Keep different work separate.

Give different clients or areas of work their own meetings, Dictionary and custom templates.

One record. Your way of working.

06 / Into your workflow

From call to next step

Start with a conversation.
Keep it moving.

Start with a call.
Or a recording.

Record on your Mac without a bot joining the call. Start manually, or turn on Call Detection for the session. Already have audio or video? Add the file for transcription and a summary.

Call Detection responds to microphone use and is off after each launch. You are responsible for informing participants and obtaining any required permission.

Take the record with you.

Export a summary as Markdown or a transcript as text, ready for the rest of your work.

07 / The processing boundaryYour choice

On your Mac.
By default.

Transcription, speaker separation and built-in summaries run on your Mac. No separate AI service is needed for the built-in workflow.

Connect more, if you choose.

Use an external summary provider, connect an AI assistant or move recordings to storage you configure. Each is a separate choice.

Model downloads, licensing and updates use the internet.

08 / A few useful answersThe essentials

Before your
next meeting.

What Mac do I need?

An Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later. 8 GB of memory is the supported minimum; 16 GB or more gives more room for local processing. The app checks model requirements and free space during setup.

How does Recordstead help save battery?

Recordstead gives your battery a breather. By default, it waits between processing steps when your Mac is unplugged and below 20%. You can also choose to wait for power. It respects Low Power Mode and pauses processing between steps if your Mac gets too hot. These safeguards never interrupt recording, and processing resumes automatically when conditions allow. How battery-aware processing works ↗

Do I need a separate AI service?

No separate AI service is needed for built-in summaries. Download the required models in Recordstead. External providers are optional.

Does it work offline?

Transcription, speaker separation and built-in summaries run locally once the required models are downloaded. You still need internet for initial setup, model downloads, updates and periodic access verification. If the offline access window expires, recording remains available while processing waits for verification. Connected cloud services need their own connection.

Which meeting apps does it work with?

Recordstead captures audio on your Mac without a meeting-platform integration. Call Detection responds to apps using the microphone, including browser-based calls, rather than a fixed list of meeting apps. You can also start a recording manually. Microphone and System Audio Recording permissions are required. How Call Detection works ↗

Which languages are supported?

Recordstead transcribes 25 European languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Ukrainian. It detects the spoken language on its own, or you can choose one in Settings. Summaries can be written in any of the same 25, chosen separately. Choosing a language ↗

Does a bot join my meeting?

No. Recordstead captures audio on your Mac. It does not join the call or notify other participants for you.

Can I add an existing recording?

Yes. Audio and video files can enter the same transcription and summary workflow. Some formats need an additional decoder. See supported formats ↗

Can I keep the original audio?

Recordings have a configurable retention policy. The default local window is seven days for eligible transcribed recordings. You can export audio or configure an external destination. Transcripts and summaries are retained separately. Read about recording storage ↗

Can I use it on Windows?

Recordstead currently runs on macOS.
